Power and Performance: The Role of Theatre in the Articulation of Identity and Nationalism in the Philippines at the Turn of the 20th Century

She will be sharing highlights of her dissertation research on Philippine theatre at the close of Spanish and the start of U.S. colonization of the archipelago. Her research focuses on questions of audience and hidden transcripts, exploring the idea of articulating "Filipino-ness" and the building of a Filipino Nation versus the Philippine State through performance.
