Join the Filipino & Philippine Studies Working Group for a lecture with Lily Ann Villaraza. She will be sharing highlights of her dissertation research on Philippine theatre at the close of Spanish and the start of U.S. colonization of the archipelago. Her research focuses on questions of audience and hidden transcripts, exploring the idea of articulating "Filipino-ness" and the building of a Filipino Nation versus the Philippine State through performance.

Lily Ann Villaraza is a doctoral candidate from Northern Illinois University. She is also Chair of Philippine Studies at City College of San Francisco, where she has overseen the development and implementation of language and content courses for the campus.
