Japanese Film & Visual Media Working Group

The Japanese Film and Visual Media Working Group offers a space for students and faculty to discuss and present work on Japanese film and various media forms of visual media, including photography, television, video art, and social media video. The group explores the visual through a range of theoretical frameworks, including film and media theory, gender and queer theory, as well as theories of adaptation and trauma/precarity. The group holds screenings (with subtitles) and meetings to discuss screened films and related contextual and theoretical readings. Members also have the opportunity to present papers in progress and academic work related to topics with which the group engages.
