Ottoman and Turkish Studies Working Group

The Ottoman and Turkish Studies Working Group will focus on discussions of English-language scholarship and translations of Ottoman and Turkish sources over the course of the semester, drawing from the diverse research interests of members. This group draws its membership from a variety of departments, including History, Anthropology, Music, Art History, Rhetoric, Economics, Near Eastern Studies, and Sociology. As the Ottoman Empire was profoundly diverse and intercultural — requiring contemporary scholars to develop broad as well as deep knowledge of history and languages — an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach is necessary for members to approach the topic productively.
