Welcome!

Welcome to the Native American Studies: The Politics of Identity Working Group!

We are excited to announce the Native American Studies: The Politics of Identity working group will be holding its introductory meeting. At this meeting we hope to gain suggestions from everyone so this group can be as collaborative as possible.

Identity, Land & Space Meeting

At this meeting, we will be watching the film Pikyav ("to fix it"). This film highlights the intersections of identity and land, which is the theme for this week's meeting. The film centers on the Karuk Tribe from the Klamath River region in northwestern California.

Introductory Meeting

At this introductory meeting, we will be having an open discussion about how participants want to proceed and interact with our working group. As of now, since the focus is the politics of identity, we are hoping that each month will focus on at least one of a myriad of intersections with identity. For example, we have scheduled the month of September to be dedicated to identity and the interconnection with land/space/place.

Besides going over meeting details, we will have a discussion about the recent and controversial claims that Johnny Depp might purchase Wounded Knee.
